-
- Troubleshooting related questions and answers
-
- Q. My 33,600 Sportster will only connect at 28,800. How do I get
- higher connection rates?
- A. The modem you are calling will need to support 33,600. If the
- modem you are calling supports 33,600 the problem may be related to
- phone line conditions.
-
- Q. What are the ideal settings for my Internet dialer?
- A. In the software ensure the Initialization String is AT&F1,
- Flow Control is set to RTS/CTS or Hardware, and the Port Rate or Speed
- is 38400, 57600, or 115200.
- **Note that these settings are for Hardware Flow control. Some
- Internet dialers may require Software flow control. For software flow
- control use an initialization string of AT&F2 and set to software
- flow control or Xon/Xoff.
-
- Q. How do I adjust the volume on the modem?
- A. External modems: The volume control is located on the left
- side of the modem.
- Internal modems: Use of the following commands in the initialization
- string.
- L1 (softest setting) through L3 (loudest setting) eg:AT&F1L3
-
- Q. I connect to most on-line services, but I have problems with
- this one service....
- A. If the specific On-line service you are having problems with
- requires its own program you may try one of the alternate
- initialization strings listed in the Tech Tips section of this
- document. Try to call the same number with another program. If you are
- able to connect with another program there may be a software
- configuration issue. You will want to contact their technical support
- if our software configuration did not solve the problem.
-
- Q. How do I find out the supervisor date or firmware revision of
- my modem?
- A. To find out the supervisor date or firmware revision of your
- modem we will need your ATI7 (ati7) information. This command can be
- sent to the modem from a terminal mode of QuickLink II and QuickLink
- II Message Center which all start in a terminal mode. For Mac users
- using Mac Com Center you will need to click the On-Line button to
- access the terminal window. For other software packages please
- consult their documentation for this procedure.
-
- Type "AT" if the software is seeing the modem properly the modem will
- respond with
- an "OK".
-
- Now type "ATI7" (ati7) the modem should respond with the following
- information.
-
- Configuration Profile...
- Product type US/Canada Internal
- Options V32bis,V.FC,V.34
- Fax Options Class 1/Class 2.0
- Clock Freq 20.16Mhz
- Eprom 256k
- Ram 32k
- Supervisor date 04/18/95
- DSP date 03/31/95
- Supervisor rev 6.0.5
- DSP rev 1.0.9
- OK
